The Vine interviews my gallery

Excerpt:

The Vine asks Directors of 19Karen Contemporary Artspace how they would describe the verve, mood and personality of their stable?

Mariam: I’d say our artists’ works are refreshing, exciting, sometimes experimental. Our represented artists, such as Vitor Dos Santos, Laura Jones, Justin Lee Williams, Jae Cop, Abigael Whittaker and Rebecca Murphy, are among a new breed of emerging Australian artists whose immense potential is evident at this early stage in their career.

Yen review by Jess Gardner

"Laura Jones Gang" written by Jess Gardner and published on the Yen Magazine blog : http://www.yenmag.net/

"As a bespectacled, chubby, library going youngster I never went in for the Babysitters Club. Nope, three snot-nosed younger siblings was enough to put me off kids for the forseeable future. The series of books I did get into, however, was Friends 4 Ever. Yep... I wanted so badly to be in their gang. Four teenage girls penning letters to each other, talking about ponies and boys and how shiny their hair was. Now at 25 years old, I want more than anything, to be in the Laura Jones Gang.

So I made it up. It’s not really a gang, but you should know about the leader.

Laura Jones is a 26 year old artist from Kurrajong, NSW, currently stirring chatter amongst arty-types with her bold, provocative portraits of young women, usually with her friends as subjects. Her work portrays moments in the lives of 20-something females that are both completely personal, yet recognised and felt by all of us.
How fabulous to be a friend of Laura’s and have your story told on canvas with such energy and raw emotion and yet also with something intangible, fluttering within. And to be honest, these girls just look like they’re leading such good looking, fun, well-dressed lives.

Laura’s solo show No Man's Land, opens at the 19 Karen Contemporary Artspace on the Gold Coast tomorrow. Go down for a peek, foremost to glimpse a talented artist of the future, but mostly to daydream your young woman-self into a piece of art."
